Freddy Pope is my wife’s late father. When he found out he was going to be a dad he volunteered for the submarine service for the extra pay. He only saw her once in 1942. We have a few photographs of him with some of the crew, in Alexandria. The boat was off Suda Bay in Crete in May 44. My wife and I went to the Commonwealth War Graves at Suda Bay Crete in May 2014 and laid a wreath in memory of her dad and the crew of HMS Sickle.
