HMS SICKLE (Lt J R Drummond) sailed from Malta on 31 May 1944 for an area in the northern Aegean. She shelled shipping in Mitelylene on the evening of 4 June and was counterattacked; taking hits on her fin and casing. One man was killed, 2 wounded and one blown overboard (AB Blake). Blake was taken prisoner and was the only survivor of the patrol.

SICKLE resumed her patrol and the last contact from her was received on 12 June. On 14 June SICKLE was ordered to terminate her patrol and return to her base but she was never seen again. On 18 June 1944 she was officially listed as being lost by enemy action in the Antikithera Channel in the Aegean, probably mined. She was the last British submarine to be lost in the Mediterranean while on active service.
