1915)

HMS C31 (Lt G Pilkington) sailed from Harwich on 4 January 1915 for a patrol off Zeebrugge to gather intelligence of German naval activity off the Belgian coast. She was due to return to Harwich on 7 January but was never heard from again. A search off Zeebrugge by HM destroyers LURCHER and FIREDRAKE on the morning of 10 January revealed nothing. The cause of her loss remains unknown but is likely to have been due to striking a mine.
