HMS G11 was wrecked off Howick, Northumberland on 22 November 1918. The submarine had sailed on patrol on 19 November but had been recalled on 21 November. Lt Cdr Bradshaw was the temporary Commanding Officer as the boat’s usual CO, Lt Richard Sandford VC, was sick ashore and died from his illness on 23 November. Two members of the Ships Company were drowned as the crew made their way through surf to the beach.
