H31

 (1917

 -

1941)

HMS H31 (Lt F B Gibbs) deployed to Brest on 19 December 1941 to form part of the blockade around Brest established to prevent the breakout of the German pocket battleships SCHARNHORST and GNEISENAU.

The Submarine was escorted as far as the Wolfe Rock and left her escort on 19 December 1941. H31 was not heard from again and was considered lost with all hands on the 20 December. It is assumed that she struck a mine in the Bay of Biscay.
