PORPOISE

 (1933

 -

1945)

HMS PORPOISE (Lt Cdr H B Turner) was laid down as a minelaying submarine and completed in 1933. She had served with distinction during the siege of Malta and deployed to the Far East in 1944. PORPOISE reported completing a minelay off Penang, the last report received from the submarine. She was lost with all hands (probably as a result of action by aircraft) in the Malacca Strait on 16 January 1945. PORPOISE was the last British submarine to be lost to enemy action in WW2.
