HMS TIGRIS (Lt Cdr G R Colvin) sailed from Malta on 18 February 1943 for a patrol area to the south of Naples. On 24 February, a submarine that is thought to have been TIGRIS was sighted about 40 miles southwest of Naples.
On the morning of 27 February, sonar contact on a submarine was gained by convoy escort UJ2210. The escort dropped 2 patterns of 15 depth charges. Copious quantities of air bubbles and oil were observed. Two more sticks of 15 charges were dropped that resulted in a huge air bubble, pieces of wood and more oil.
TIGRIS was declared lost with all hands on 10 March 1943 on failing to return to harbour..
