HMS
UNIQUE
(1940
-
1942)

HMS UNIQUE (Lt R E Boddington) sailed from the Holy Loch on 7 October 1942 to patrol in the Bay of Biscay en route to the Mediterranean. She detached from her escort off the Scillies on 9 October but was not heard of again.
UNIQUE was reported overdue on 24 October 1942 having failed to arrive at Gibraltar. The cause of her loss remains unknown, but it is possible that she was lost on 13 October 1942 in a failed attack on the German tanker Spichern, in position 46°54’N, 06°03’W, after being damaged by a premature explosion of one of her own torpedoes. There were no survivors.
