On 6 March 1945, HMS XE11 (Lt A Staples) collided with the propeller of the boom defence vessel, NORINA, when she drifted out of position while carrying out a training exercise in Loch Striven in the Firth of Clyde on the west coast of Scotland. The propeller gashed XE11 hull and she sank immediately.

The First Lieutenant, W Morrison, and ERA Swatton escaped but the captain and two others were lost.

HMS XE11 was the last British submarine to be lost in World War 2.
