UREDD

 (1941

 -

1943)

UREDD (Ex-Unafraid) (Lt.Cdr RQ Roren) left Lerwick for her eighth war patrol on 31 January 1943. She was supposed to return to Lerwick on 19 February, but was lost off Norway in an unknown minefield southwest of Fugloyv in the Fugleoy fjord, southwest of Bodo in position 67 05’N, 13 31’E.

The minefield had been laid by German minelayer, Cobra. It is probable that UREDD was lost on or around 10 February 1943. She was officially reported overdue on 26 February 1943.

UREDD was relocated in 1985 and declared a war grave on 13 March 1986. A memorial of a Dolphin was raised at the roadside, to the south of the site of her sinking; it was unveiled by HM King Olav V on 18 June 1987.
