The Submariners Association
The Submariners Association is an Association of ex and serving Submariners, which seeks to maintain the special bonds of friendship, loyalty and comradeship, together with a pride in the Submarine Service, formed during service in Her Majesty’s Submarines. The objective of the Submariners Association is to promote and support the RN Submarine Service and its heritage, to foster the friendships and comradeship peculiar to all submariners so that they may continue to share the experiences and association and to keep alive that pride in the Submarine Branch, formed during their service in H.M. Submarines.
Our aims
Promote and foster relationships with submariners of other countries.
Enhance the well being of submariners past and present and their families.
Promote and support the Submariners Memorial Fund.
Although social occasions form an important part of our activities, the work of the Association is not all beer and skittles. For instance, on leaving the Royal Navy you may move to an area, which is new to you, or to one which you may have left some years ago. Under these circumstances, we, the local Branch could be a very useful source of advice and contacts in the vital process of readjusting to civilian life, particularly in such areas as housing, schooling, jobs and the many other matters associated with the transition from service to civilian life.

We Remember Submariners
We Remember Submariners (WRS) is a not-for-profit organisation has recently achieved status as a Registered Charity of England & Wales as of December 2017
We raise funds through donations, events and the sale of our unique annual Memorial Pins, plus other items of memrobilia, using the funds to provide the following:
- Fund and lay wreaths at National Remembrance occasions, currently:
- Annual memorial service at the National Submarine War Memorial, located at Victoria Embankment, London on the first Sunday of November.
- At the statue of the Submariner in the Combined Services Memorial, located in the West Cloister, Westminster Abbey, London on Remembrance Day.
- At The Cenotaph, located on Whitehall, London on Remembrance Day.
- Fund wreaths for submarine memorials around the world, laid by WRS Members. Countries include, Australia, Canada, Cyprus, Malta, Singapore, Spain and the USA.
- Fund a wreath or donation in lieu, as specified by the Next of Kin for the funeral of all submariners (retired or serving) who have Crossed the Bar, which We Remember Submarines gets to know about.
- Gift special memorial pins to the immediate relatives of all deceased submariners. These pins are named ‘Moly’ Pins, in honour of the late Lt Cdr Ian Molyneux RN GM, and feature a wreath of red poppies with a single golden poppy in remembrance of each family’s individual loss. ‘Moly’ Pins cannot be purchased.
- Send cards of condolence to families of deceased submariners.
- Donations, on a case-by-case basis, to dependent relatives of deceased submariners.
The list above is not exhaustive and we are expanding our charitable work as the We Remember Submariners charity continues to grow, gaining members and experience, every year.
Funds remaining at the end of each year, after all deductions, are held in reserve or partially donated to submarine-related charities.

Friends of The Royal Navy Submarine Museum
With the demise of HMS DOLPHIN, the original alma mater, in 1998, the Royal Navy Submarine Museum established at Haslar Jetty in the 1980s, has become the natural link with submarine history, stretching back to the beginning of the last century.
Featuring the first Royal Navy submarine Holland 1 and HMS Alliance of WWII vintage, the Museum provides a comprehensive record of the life and times of the Submarine Branch of the Royal Navy.
Well established as a major visitor attraction, the Museum also boasts a significant research facility, with some 50,000 documents, 120,000 photographs, 300 works of art and 800 medals and the collection continues to grow.
The Cost of preserving this important part of our heritage for the future always exceeds the available budget and this is where the Friends make such a vital contribution.
Founded with charitable status in 1995 (Registered Charity No. 1046251), The Society of Friends has attracted almost 900 members and the support of the Hampshire County Council. With a sound financial base, the Society has an ongoing programme to finance the conservation of photographs and other archive material, enhancing display galleries, staff training and the purchase of submarine related artefacts.
The Friends are an active, involved society working to preserve the heritage of the Submarine Service through its Museum.

The 2024 Atlantic campaign will aim to become the first ever all-women’s Royal Navy team to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean. Unlike our previous campaigns, the Valkyries represent the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm, Surface Fleet and Submarine service, having all deployed on numerous operations both in the UK and overseas. The Valkyries team are fundraising for the RNRMC and the Young Women’s Trust; a new collaboration that will allow them to use their unique platform to encourage young women into traditionally under-represented environments such as STEM, both in and out of the Royal Navy. After a busy campaign, they are now ready to go! The team will fly out to the Canaries at the start of December and push off into the Atlantic Ocean on the 11th of December; we look forward to sharing another incredible adventure with you all!
