The RN Submarine School in HMS Raleigh held a Remembrance Service to remember those submariners who have gone on “eternal patrol”.
The first ever Submariners’ Memorial Service was held in 1923, following the establishment of the National Submarine War Memorial in 1922. Ever since, the Submariners’ Remembrance has been held the week before the nation’s main Remembrance commemorations, allowing Submariners to attend both.
The ceremony was led by The Revd Mike Woodall, and in attendance were Captain Jane Roe ADC RN (CO HMS Raleigh), Cdr Steve Waller RN (OC RNSMS), Cdr Sean Brady RN (CDR HMS Raleigh), and WO1 Glynn Fellows (BWO HMS Raleigh), along with 10 members of the Submarine Old Comrades Association, 55 RNSMS Staff and 122 students.
On completion of the Service, 26 Submariners from HMS Raleigh were awarded the recently approved GSM 08 Medal (Global Operations) by Captain Jane Roe ADC RN, before Aggies kindly catered with bacon rolls, tea and coffee.
