Glasgow, 19 July 2024 – Yesterday evening, The Submarine Family hosted its charity fundraising event, ‘Cruise Doon the River’, bringing together the submariner community for a memorable night aboard ‘The Waverley’, a historic paddle steamer. As the vessel cruised along the picturesque River Clyde, guests enjoyed a night of entertainment, camaraderie, and heartfelt support for a meaningful cause.

The event began with a warm welcome from the Military Wives Choir, whose beautiful harmonies greeted guests as they boarded The Waverley. Their poignant performance set a touching tone for the evening, celebrating the strength and resilience of military families.

Once on board, guests were treated to an array of entertainment. On the upper deck, DJ Cassie from One Clyde kicked off the festivities with an electrifying set. Her energetic mix of tunes got everyone dancing and set a lively mood for the evening. The upper deck buzzed with excitement as guests enjoyed the music and stunning views of the Clyde.

Inside the bar, the band ‘The Pies’ delivered a dynamic performance that kept the crowd entertained. Their setlist, featuring a mix of original songs and popular covers, resonated with guests, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere. The band’s infectious energy had everyone tapping their feet and singing along.

Adding to the evening’s excitement was a charity raffle with an array of prizes. Guests eagerly bought raffle tickets, knowing that all proceeds would go directly to support The Submarine Family. The funds raised from the raffle will help us continue our mission of providing essential support and fostering a sense of community among submariners and their families.

Throughout the evening, guests mingled, shared stories, and forged new connections. The beautiful evening weather and scenic views of the Clyde enhanced the experience, making it a night to remember.

John Lewis, Operations Manager at The Submarine Family, expressed his gratitude to everyone involved. “The overwhelming support and enthusiasm we’ve seen tonight is truly inspiring. It’s wonderful to see our community come together to support The Submarine Family. We’re incredibly thankful to everyone who made this evening possible.”

Andrew Jameson, CEO of The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity, under which The Submarine Family fund sits, also shared his thoughts on the event’s success: “The overwhelming support we’ve seen at ‘Cruise Doon the River’ is a testament to the incredible spirit of the submariner community. Events like this are vital in ensuring we can continue to support submariners and their families. It’s heartwarming to see so many people come together for such a worthy cause.”

As The Waverley docked back at the quay, guests disembarked with smiles, cherished memories, and a renewed sense of unity. ‘Cruise Doon the River’ was not just a celebration but a testament to the strength and solidarity of the submariner community.
