The Submariners Association Held their AGM IN Belfast on the 23rd of March 2024.

The AGM was part of a family weekend/reunion, that was supported by a £6000 grant from The Submarine Family

Chairman Iain Mckenzie opened the meeting that was attended by delegates from branches all over the UK.

During the meeting, President Cdre rtd Jim Perks spoke openly about the need for a transition into a new modernised SA to attract both serving and young members to the SA.

National secretary Ron Gordon announced his intentions to step down from his position along with other members of the SA Commitee including Steve Thorpe and current chairman Iain Mckenzie.

Attention was brought to the new SA website Submariners Association – ‘We Come Unseen’ which cost the SA £4000 set up costs.

The SA have now moved to a one member one vote system, a strategic move away from the branch vote system that has been the process since the SA was founded in 1932 About Us – Submariners Association

Ron also announced that a vote was held around moving the November ceremonies from London to the national arboretum in Staffordshire.

There was a major majority in favour of keeping the memorial in Middle Temple Gardens, London.

It was mentioned at the meeting by TSF operations manager John Lewis that there is now an annual memorial on the May Bank Holiday at the submariners memorial at the national arboretumSubmariners Remembrance Service – The Submarine Family which is funded and organise by The Submarine Family and We Remember Submariners About Us – We Remember Submariners (we-remember-submariners.com)

It was also mentioned that the SA have supported military Vs Cancer and are sponsoring the TSF summer fundraisier on the Waverley Cruise Doon The River, TSF Fundraiser on the Waverley – The Submarine Family

There was a church service prior to the meeting where ther the names of those who have sadly crossed the bar since the last AGM where read out.
